Instead, the epic presents a heartfelt and intense conversation between Sita and Lakshman, focused on trust, protection, and duty — without any magical boundary.

Conversation between Sita Maa and Lakshman Ji

Sita Maa:
उस समय वनमें जो आर्तनाद हुआ, उसे अपने पतिके स्वरसे मिलता-जुलता जान श्रीसीताजी लक्ष्मणसे बोलीं- 'भैया! जाओ, श्रीरघुनाथजीकी सुधि लो- उनका समाचार जानो ॥ १ ॥

At that moment in the forest, hearing a cry resembling her husband’s voice, Sita said to Lakshman — "Brother! Go quickly and find out how Shri Raghunath (Lord Rama) is — get news of him."

Sita Maa:
‘उन्होंने बड़े आर्तस्वरसे हमलोगोंको पुकारा है। मैंने उनका वह शब्द सुना है। वह बहुत उच्च स्वरसे बोला गया था। उसे सुनकर मेरे प्राण और मन अपने स्थानपर नहीं रह गये हैं — मैं घबरा उठी हूँ ॥ २ ॥

“He called out loudly for us. I heard his voice raised with great urgency. Hearing it, my life and mind cannot remain steady — I am deeply worried.”

‘तुम्हारे भार्इ वनमें आर्तनाद कर रहे हैं। वे कोई शरण रक्षाका सहारा चाहते हैं। तुम उन्हें बचाओ। जल्दी ही अपने भाइके पास दौड़े हुए जाओ। जैसे कोई साँड़ सिंहोंके पंजे में फँस गया हो, उसी प्रकार वे राक्षसोंके वशमें पड़ गये हैं, अतः जाओ।’

सीताके ऐसा कहने पर भी भाइके आदेशका विचार करके लक्ष्मण नहीं गये ॥ ३-४ ॥

“Your brother is crying out in the forest. He needs shelter and protection. Save him quickly — run to him as if a bull is caught in a lion’s claws. In the same way, he has fallen into the demons’ grip. So go!”

Even after Sita said this, Lakshman did not go immediately, thinking about his brother’s orders.

उनके इस व्यवहारसे वहाँ जनककिशोरी सीता क्षुब्ध हो उठीं और उनसे इस प्रकार बोलीं — 'सुमित्राकुमार! तुम मित्ररूपमें अपने भाइके शत्रु ही जान पड़ते हो, इसीलिये तुम इस संकटकी अवस्थामें भी भाइके पास नहीं पहुँच रहे हो। लक्ष्मण! मैं जानती हूँ, तुम मुझपर अधिकार करनेके लिये इस समय श्रीरामका विनाश ही चाहते हो ॥ ५-६ ॥

Because of this behavior, Sita became upset and said — “Son of Sumitra! You appear to be an enemy disguised as a friend of your brother. That is why even in this crisis you do not go to him. Lakshman! I know you want Rama’s destruction so you can gain power.”

‘मेरे लिये तुम्हारे मनमें लोभ हो गया है, निश्चय ही इसीलिये तुम श्रीरघुनाथजीके पीछे नहीं जा रहे हो। मैं समझती हूँ, श्रीरामका संकटमें पड़ना ही तुम्हें प्रिय है। तुम्हारे मनमें अपने भाइके प्रति स्नेह नहीं है ॥ ७ ॥

“Your heart is full of greed; that is why you are not going after Shri Raghunath. I understand you delight in Rama’s trouble. You have no love for your brother.”

'यही कारण है कि तुम उन महातेजस्वी श्रीरामचन्द्रजीको देखने न जाकर यहाँ निश्चिन्त खड़े हो। हाय! जो मुख्यतः तुम्हारे सेव्य हैं, जिनकी रक्षा और सेवाके लिये तुम यहाँ आये हो, यदि उन्हींके प्राण संकटमें पड़ गये तो यहाँ मेरी रक्षासे क्या होगा?’

“This is why you stand here instead of going to see the glorious Shri Rama. Alas! Those you chiefly serve, whose protection and service you have come here for — if their lives are in danger, what use is my protection here?”

विदेहकुमारी सीताजीकी दशा भयभीत हुई हरिणीके समान हो रही थी। उन्होंने शोकमग्न होकर आँसू बहाते हुए जब उपर्युक्त बातें कहीं

'विदेहनन्दिनी! आप विश्वास करें, नाग, असुर, गन्धर्व, देवता, दानव तथा राक्षस ये सब मिलकर भी आपके पतिको परास्त नहीं कर सकते, मेरे इस कथनमें संशय नहीं है ।' ॥ ९९२ - १०१/२ ॥

The condition of Videha princess Sita became fearful like a frightened deer. Weeping, she said the above. Lakshman then said —

“O daughter of Videha, trust me. Even if serpents, demons, gandharvas, gods, danavas, and rakshasas unite, they cannot defeat your husband. There is no doubt in my statement.”

‘श्रीरामचन्द्रजीकी अनुपस्थितिमें इस वनके भीतर मैं आपको अकेली नहीं छोड़ सकता। सैनिक बलसे सम्पन्न बड़े-बड़े राजा अपनी सारी सेनाओंके द्वारा भी श्रीरामके बलको कुण्ठित नहीं कर सकते। देवताओं तथा इन्द्र आदिके साथ मिले हुए तीनों लोक भी यदि आक्रमण करें तो वे श्रीरामके बलका वेग नहीं रोक सकते; अतः आपका हृदय शान्त हो। आप संताप छोड़ दें ॥ १४-१५ ॥

“In Shri Rama’s absence, I cannot leave you alone in this forest. Even mighty kings with vast armies cannot diminish Shri Rama’s strength. Even if gods and Indra and all the three worlds attack, they cannot stop Rama’s power. So calm your heart. Give up your sorrow.”

‘सुन्दरि! विदेहनन्दिनि! महात्मा श्रीरामचन्द्रजीने मुझपर आपकी रक्षाका भार सौंपा है। इस समय आप मेरे पास उनकी धरोहरके रूपमें हैं। अतः आपको मैं यहाँ अकेली नहीं छोड़ सकता ॥ १७१/२ ॥

“O beautiful daughter of Videha! The great Shri Ramchandra has entrusted me with your protection. At this time, you are his legacy to me. Therefore, I will not leave you here alone.”

'लक्ष्मणके ऐसा कहनेपर सीताको बड़ा क्रोध हुआ, उनकी आँखें लाल हो गयीं और वे सत्यवादी लक्ष्मणसे कठोर बातें कहने लगीं ॥ २०१/२ ॥

‘अनार्य! निर्दयी! क्रूरकर्मा! कुलाङ्गार! मैं तुझे खूब समझती हूँ। श्रीराम किसी भारी विपत्तिमें पड़ जायँ, यही तुझे प्रिय है। इसीलिये तू रामपर संकट आया देखकर भी ऐसी बातें बना रहा है ॥ २१-२२ ॥

'लक्ष्मण! तेरे-जैसे क्रूर एवं सदा छिपे हुए शत्रुओंके मनमें इस तरहका पापपूर्ण विचार होना कोई आश्चर्यकी बात नहीं है॥ २३ ॥

When Lakshman said this, Sita became very angry. Her eyes reddened, and she began to speak harshly to the truthful Lakshman:

“Unrighteous! Merciless! Cruel-doer! Outcast! I understand you well. You love it when Shri Rama falls into great trouble. That is why, seeing Rama in danger, you say such things.”

“Lakshman! It is no surprise that cruel and hidden enemies like you have such sinful thoughts.”

'तू बड़ा दुष्ट है, श्रीरामको अकेले वनमें आते देख मुझे प्राप्त करनेके लिये ही अपने भावको छिपाकर तू भी अकेला ही उनके पीछे-पीछे चला आया है, अथवा यह भी सम्भव है कि भरतने ही तुझे भेजा हो।'

‘परंतु सुमित्राकुमार! तेरा या भरतका वह मनोरथ सिद्ध नहीं हो सकता। नीलकमलके समान श्यामसुन्दर कमलनयन श्रीरामको पतिरूपमें पाकर मैं दूसरे किसी क्षुद्र पुरुषकी कामना कैसे कर सकती हूँ? ॥ २५१/२ ॥

“You are very wicked. Seeing Shri Rama come alone into the forest, you secretly followed him alone, or perhaps Bharat sent you.”

“Son of Sumitra! Your or Bharat’s desire cannot be fulfilled. Having Shri Rama, who has eyes like the blue lotus, as my husband, how can I desire any other man?”

‘सुमित्राकुमार! मैं तेरे सामने ही निःसंदेह अपने प्राण त्याग दूँगी, किंतु श्रीरामके बिना एक क्षण भी इस भूतलपर जीवित नहीं रह सकूँगी।’

“Son of Sumitra! I will undoubtedly sacrifice my life in front of you, but without Shri Rama, I cannot live even a moment on this earth.”
